1. Good Reads

I don’t usually do this but a lot of really cool and interesting things have come my way over the past few days that I recommend you all check out:

    • Mat Honan’s State of the Union of Tech News - hilarious, spot on, and a great summary if you care about bloggers bickering with each other.
    • Francis Fukuyama’s Interview with Peter Thiel - this one is long but definitely worth it. As a political science major I read Fukuyama’s The End of History in which he argues that modern liberal democracy is the final phase of evolution for human government. It doesn’t get any better than this. Thiel, on the other hand, is a major player in the industry that I am now a part of, and his views could not be more at odds with Fukuyama’s. To him, our current incarnation of liberal democracy is quite backwards and ineffective. Give it a read.
    • Clear - this new iPhone app makes use of a lot of novel interaction concepts. Rather, it makes use of familiar concepts in new ways. It has a pretty steep learning curve but once you pick it up you find yourself wondering why more applications don’t work like this.
    • Om’s Take on Mountain Lion - great perspective on the direction of this industry. The PC is increasingly irrelevant… and so is anything stored or processed locally.
